Programmable crystal oscillator SG-8504CA with customizable quadruple frequency output

Epson has launched a four choice crystal oscillator - SG-8504CA, which can output at four frequencies ranging from 50MHz to 800MHz. Users can choose the appropriate output frequency according to their needs to meet various clock signal requirements, greatly expanding its application range. This product expands the output frequency range of crystal oscillators and reduces user costs. Its main application areas are optical communication transmission networks (OTNs), base transceiver stations (BTS), and testing instruments.


This crystal oscillator is equipped with an I ² C interface, which allows users to program it and easily set the desired output frequency. This programmable feature greatly simplifies circuit design, shortens product development cycles, and provides designers with higher flexibility and convenience. The input voltage of SG-8504CA ranges from 2.5V to 3.3V, with dimensions of 7.0 × 5.0 × 1.5mm and a total of 8 pins. Adopting advanced temperature compensation technology and high-quality quartz crystals, the built-in temperature sensor monitors the working temperature in real time and automatically adjusts the circuit voltage to compensate for frequency offset caused by temperature changes, ensuring excellent output stability and low phase noise performance even under temperature changes or power supply voltage fluctuations. For example, when the output frequency is 156MHz and 250MHz, the phase jitter is only 0.26ps. The phase jitter test data of SG-8504CA is shown in the following table.


The product features of SG-8504CA are as follows:

Frequency difference tolerance f_tol: ± 50 × 10-6. Considered the impact of 10-year frequency aging

The maximum rise time tr and fall time tf are 400ps. The timing range is 20%~80%

• Start time t_str: The maximum value is 10ms. At 0 seconds, the input voltage is at its lowest

The setting time Tset1 for frequency conversion is a maximum of 1.5ms. The starting and ending points of time are from setting the FSEL1 and FSEL0 level values to outputting a new clock frequency

• Storage temperature: -55 ℃ to+125 ℃

Operating temperature range: -40 ℃ to+85 ℃
