There are differences between programmable crystal oscillators and ordinary crystal oscillators in multiple aspects:
一.Functional features:
1.Frequency flexibility:
Programmable crystal oscillator: It can be programmed according to the specific needs of customers, and can achieve various frequency outputs. The degree of freedom in frequency setting is high, which can meet the requirements of non-standard frequencies in specific application scenarios. For example, in the development of some special communication equipment, a specific frequency is required to meet the requirements of data transmission, and a programmable crystal oscillator can output this frequency through programming.
Ordinary crystal oscillator: Its frequency is usually fixed and determined during production, and can only provide specific and standard frequency values, such as common 12MHz, 24MHz, 32.768kHz, etc. Users cannot change its frequency.

2.Temperature compensation function (some ordinary crystal oscillators do not have it):
Programmable crystal oscillator: Many programmable crystal oscillators integrate temperature compensation circuits internally, which can automatically adjust the frequency according to temperature changes, enabling them to maintain high frequency stability in different temperature environments. For example, in some outdoor electronic devices where the ambient temperature changes greatly, the temperature compensation function of programmable crystal oscillators can ensure the normal operation of the equipment.
Ordinary crystal oscillator: Some ordinary crystal oscillators do not have temperature compensation function, and their frequency is affected by temperature changes. In environments with large temperature changes, frequency stability is poor. However, there are also some ordinary crystal oscillators that have been specially designed to have certain temperature compensation capabilities, but the compensation effect is usually not as good as programmable crystal oscillators.

二.Production and delivery:

1.Production method:

Programmable crystal oscillator: During the production process, customer required parameters (such as frequency, voltage, etc.) need to be programmed into the blank chip, which requires specific programming equipment and technology. Therefore, the production process is relatively complex, but it can achieve a high degree of customization.

Ordinary crystal oscillator: The production process is relatively simple, and batch production is carried out according to fixed frequency and specifications.

2.Delivery cycle:

Programmable crystal oscillator: usually has a short delivery cycle, and can be produced and delivered within a few days, which can meet customers' response to urgent needs.

Ordinary crystal oscillator: If it is a standard frequency ordinary crystal oscillator, there is usually a large amount of spot supply in the market, and the delivery cycle is relatively short; But for some ordinary crystal oscillators with special frequencies or customized requirements, the production cycle may be longer, and the delivery time may take several weeks or even months.

三.Application scenarios:

Programmable crystal oscillator: suitable for application scenarios that require high frequency flexibility, quick customization and delivery, such as high-end communication equipment, aerospace, military equipment, scientific research instruments, etc. Devices in these fields often require specific frequencies to meet complex communication protocols or high-precision measurement requirements, and programmable crystal oscillators can effectively meet these needs.

Ordinary crystal oscillator: widely used in various general electronic devices, such as computers, mobile phones, televisions, speakers and other consumer electronic products, as well as some industrial control equipment with less strict frequency requirements.

四.Circuit design and ease of use:
1.Circuit design complexity:
Programmable crystal oscillator: In circuit design, it is necessary to consider the design of programming interfaces and control circuits in order to correctly program and configure the crystal oscillator. This may increase the complexity of circuit design, but for some complex systems, more flexible functionality and optimized performance can be achieved through programming.
Ordinary crystal oscillator: The circuit design is relatively simple, just connect the corresponding capacitors, resistors and other components according to the specifications of the crystal oscillator. For some simple electronic devices, the use of ordinary crystal oscillators is more convenient and efficient.

2.Convenience of use:
Programmable crystal oscillator: Programming operations are required before use, which requires certain technical and equipment support. For users who are not familiar with programming, it may take some time and effort to learn and master programming methods.
Ordinary crystal oscillator: It is relatively easy to use and does not require additional programming operations. Simply follow the correct circuit connection method to use it.
